Challenge
The closeout process has always been a thorn in the side of GCs, clients, and subcontractors alike, and Foulger-Pratt was no exception. Subcontractors end up moving on to other projects once their work is completed, clients hold on to retainers, and the PAs/PEs are left trying to pick up the pieces. With their six-month process of chasing down hundreds of submittals, keeping track of their status, and then compiling them into a turnover package fragmented across USBs, binders, CDs, and cloud file links, Project Admin/Engineer at Foulger-Pratt Darlene Opoku knew it was time to try a new approach.
Pype Closeout Cuts Time and Improves Quality
Darlene’s team easily implemented Pype Closeout into their workflow, watching as it contacted subcontractors automatically. This freed up valuable man hours that had once been devoted to closeout, allowing them to refocus on other projects. After spending a fraction of the time typically spent gathering submittals, they generated their eBinder for project turnover in just a few minutes. Foulger-Pratt presented their client with a fully hyperlinked and searchable PDF with complete turnover documentation. With all contract obligations neatly fulfilled, the owners released the retention monies right away.
Darlene and her team saw a 3x ROI on the software, as not only did they use their new-found time to increase productivity on their next project, but their turnover package left a lasting impression on the owners, facility managers, and design team.
“Project closeout is a painful process but Pype acted as a virtual project engineer on our job site. We used to spend days and weeks during the closeout process compiling documents and with Pype we spend less than an hour a day. Our client was happy to see a professional turnover package (eBinder) which helped us with early retention release.”
