Summary

Challenge
At the start of projects when creating a submittal register, Stiles Construction traditionally relied on a very manual and reactive approach. Their traditional process of creating the register included using printed versions of the specifications and highlighted essential sections to be tracked in excel spreadsheets. Some members of the team used Bluebeam to search specifications, which was an improvement, but led to an inconsistent process across the department. Additional frustrations were:

  • The amount of time it took to produce the register
  • Reuse of specifications from job to job that didn’t apply
  • Team members getting on board too late to stay ahead of schedule.

As the speed of projects increased and the number of new staff grew they had gotten away from proven project management processes. This meant that thoroughly vetting the specification requirements often suffered. It was then that the team realized they needed a change.
